Shield This

eading SSW, Matthew Williamson took Pucci on a diversion from its Italian isle excess into Navajo country. Evidently, women wear gold and silver metallic shield sunglasses there.

Clockwise from top left: Sheila Marquez, Suvi Koponen, Anja Rubik and Catherine McNeil.

I really liked the collection, but I think that's because I really like Matthew Williamson. Style.com's runway review really hit home:
You could see one of Williamson's It-girl girlfriends pulling it off, and that's sort of telling. Rather than developing a distinct focus, his Pucci collections are starting to look more and more like his signature line.

P.S. - That Catherine McNeil is a hottie boom bottie. I believe that's the technical term anyway.

I'm Looking Through You

ow do I love Style.com's LookBooks?

Let me count the ways: one, StylistBlair.

Blair's got some great picks in her Super Star Glasses lookbook. Like good old Agy in Luella.

I dug that Autumn/Winter 2007 show too. [See: UPDATED -- Luella's Catwalk]

Dolce a Deux

ashionistas, now I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but there are two ways you can wear the unabashedly wagtastic Dolce and Gabbana logo sunglasses. Do you prefer to start with the good or the bad?

DOLCE DONE WELL

Let's go ahead and start with the positive. There is the playful, retro approach, exemplified this week by Emmy winner Katherine Heigl in Dolce & Gabbana 6018B sunglasses. I don't even like medical dramas, but I find myself interested in her seemingly down-to-earth style in spite of myself.

Here the logo takes a backseat to the old school shape of these DG frames. They are available for £120 at sunglasses-shop.co.uk.

WHEN DOLCE GOES HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY AWRY

Sunglasses "really do, as the fashion magazines say, hide a multitude of sins," but they cannot be expected to work miracles. And granted, sunnies truly are the least of Britney Spears' many, many worries, but I expect a bit more from someone who rakes in a reported $737,868 a month.

Bring the Funk

have to say, I love the funk of Matthew Williamson's eyewear collection this season. Those investor funds' cash infusion came through in the clutch, eh? These sunnies are the perfect follow-up to a Prince performance.

From left to right: Anja Rubik (whose short haircut I love), Tatyana Usova, Olya Ivanisevic, Anouck Lepère, Behati Prinsloo (who I love period), Flavia De Oliveira and Diana Moldovan.

"Hockney meets Bloomsbury"

utest sunglasses of the Spring 2008 shows thus far goes to Paul Smith.

I've affectionately titled the look "Harry Potter at the sea" and I think Alexandra Tomlinson looks adorable in them. Flashy Likey.

I Love Me Some Agyness Dean

ommy Hilfiger is really trying to make open-toed Oxford pumps happen and I wish he wouldn't. But he showed some great shoes at one of New York's last Fashion Week shows.

As always, Agyness Deyn (far left) looks fantastic in whatever sunnies they throw on her.

From left to right: Ms. Deyn, Snejana Onopka, Kim Noorda, Caroline Trentini, Lily Donaldson, Erin Heatherton and Lindsay Ellingson.

MbMJ

icely done, Marc by Marc Jacobs! Very cute sunglasses that will be extremely reasonably priced. Pair modeled by Bobbi Wiens (upper right), consider yourself on my list.

Futuristic Lives

alvin Klein kept the futuristic trend started with Balenciaga's Spring/Summer 2007 chemistry safety goggles alive at their runway show earlier this week in New York.

Francisco Costa's version is a bit more wearable. Call me crazy, but I dig.

The Perfect Sunglasses to Wear with Your New "Cocktail Shorts"

ecause the pairing of sunglasses and evening wear is so unexpected, I always find Carolina Herrera's usage of flash so enjoyable. And she certainly shocked and awed us this week with her Spring Summer 2008 showing.

Clockwise from top left: Snejana Onopka, Freja Beha Erichsen, Jessica Stam, Lily Donaldson, Behati Prinsloo and Du Juan. Is it weird that Snejana's and Lily's bizarre open-circle-nose-piece sunglasses are my favorites?

Anna: So Outrageous

iting Biba as her influence, Anna Sui injected a swinging, punk sensibility into her Spring/Summer 2008 collection. As you can see below, this influence pervaded hair, makeup and accessories, including our precious sunnies.

When you've got cheekbones like model Julia Stegner, you can wear whatever you want, but I actually like these mod sunglasses.

P.S. - On a related note, did you know that another famous Anna (Wintour, that is) was once a Biba employee? Thank you, Wikipedia.

I'm Starting with the Millionaire in the Mirror

ehold, Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Award shenanigans this weekend in Las Vegas, chatting up the ladies.

[Source: MTV.com]

He is wearing sunglasses designed by his friend and collaborator, Pharrell Williams. They are the aptly-named Louis Vuitton Millionaire Sunglasses, which retail for $1,000 and are inspired by --what else?-- "Scarface."

Hernandez and McCollough Make Good

really could not be more impressed by the profusion and perfection of the Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer 2008 sunglasses. A+ boys. I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Discotheque Confusion: Choose or Lose

ere at FlashyShades, we've been a bit fixated on the Chanel 5018 sunglasses: from their runway debut on Agyness Deyn to magazine editorials featuring Ashley Olsen to their many Nicole Richie paparazzi shots.

Yet somehow, we missed this sighting of Pharrell Williams donning the Chanel shades. Who owns the look, Nicole or Pharrell? Make your way over to one of our favorites, Discotheque Confusion, to cast your vote.

Karen Walker, My Hero: "Just Give 'Em Nothing But Big and Bold"

n my own sunglass obsessed opinion, there is no runway show like a Karen Walker runway show. Without further ado:

[Source: Style.com]

Jennifer Mankin of the Brooklyn boutique Bird told New York Magazine that the line was a standout with "superb line of sunglasses, which made each model look oh-so-cool."

Style.com referred to the sunglasses as "Rachel Zoe-worthy" (is that even close to a compliment?), but went on to state:
"Karen Walker, now in her third season here, has built a solid business on her singular, cheery-but-subversive brand of sartorial whimsy. To wit, she considered adding classic styles to her popular line of eyewear before deciding to just give 'em nothing but big and bold. The result: multiple reorders at Barneys. The lesson: To thine own self be true."

Its Always Better on Holiday

t becomes clear after viewing the Eurochic beachwear of the Spring/Summer 2008 Abaeté collection that, in the words of Style.com, "the many hours [Abaeté designer] Poretzky has logged on chic beaches have not been in vain."

[Source: Style.com]

I quite like the muted Art Deco look of the collection and the multitude of shades featured therein.

I'm Feeling Yummy Head to Toe

orget fall's looming duldrums. Its Spring/Summer 2008, baby! Well, in the Ready-to-Wear world, anyway.

I (ticketless, of course) walked by the Bryant Park shows last night at 8 PM, eager to catch a peek of Miss Gwen Stefani and her L.A.M.B. show, but to no avail.

Here's what I would have caught inside: models Georgia Frost and Ines Crnokrak keeping the white wayfarer trend alive both on the runway and in their standard hamming-it-up-backstage photos with Chanel Iman.

Countdown 3.1

A source of trepidation: the sunglasses debut of Phillip Lim's 3.1 line.

The Kitt Aviators, ($240) as seen at right, and the rest of the range will hit the runway at Lim's Sunday night show. The remainder of the collection will range from $180 to $325 and will only be available at his SoHo showroom.

Preternatural Genetic Gifts

t the Venice Film Festival this week, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt unveiled the crown jewel of their collection, Shiloh Nouvel. Careful not to look too closely, its like staring into the sun.

Angelina's sunglasses, of course, are pretty hot as well. They are the Bulgari BV 862 sunglasses. They are $232 on Styledrops.com and they fall into the category of "I want..."

Paps on Holiday

f a Desperate Housewife wears a bikini, but no paparazzi is there to capture it, does it make a sound?

Eva Longoria was photographed on the beach in Spain this week, in Christian Dior Dior Airspeed 2 sunglasses ($237 at otticanet.com). Has she always had that big back tattoo?

Free Bird

erry Labor Day, y'all.

Just a quick post on this day off, as they are few and far between. Sienna Miller, in the awe-inspringly large September Vogue, donning feathers for a shoot in Rome with Mario Testino. Below, she wears the sunglasses from the Chanel haute couture runway show.

Dodging the paparazzi (named after Paparazzo, the photographer character in Fellini's La Dolce Vita), Italian actor-heartthrob Riccardo Scamarcio gives a quilled Miller a lift, incognito-style. Armani Privé black-and-fuchsia feather jacket. TSE cashmere-and-silk tank. OMO Norma Kamali leggings. Chanel Haute Couture sunglasses. On Scamarcio: Miu Miu black suit and white shirt.
