Mod Richie

Nicole Richie and her adorable family were papped going out for burgers this past weekend.

I kind of love her for wearing these ridiculous "Chanel Paris" sunglasses exactly once.

Discotheque Confusion: Choose or Lose

ere at FlashyShades, we've been a bit fixated on the Chanel 5018 sunglasses: from their runway debut on Agyness Deyn to magazine editorials featuring Ashley Olsen to their many Nicole Richie paparazzi shots.

Yet somehow, we missed this sighting of Pharrell Williams donning the Chanel shades. Who owns the look, Nicole or Pharrell? Make your way over to one of our favorites, Discotheque Confusion, to cast your vote.

Ashley Olsen is Cute.

t seems like Nicole Richie is not the only one to get their hands on Chanel's Spring/Summer 2007 runway sunglasses.

Ashley Olson dons them in her September 2007 profile in Marie Claire.

They are the Chanel 5018's.

Nicole is cute these days, but Agyness Deyn wears them best.

Disney Couture: An Oxymoron?

o, Disney is venturing into "couture." Riiiight. Somehow I suspect that Kidada for Disney Couture strays from what the French artisans, fournisseurs, milliners and ateliers have defined as couture. But that's neither here nor there, when you can snap up the cartoon-inspired, starlet-endorsed jewelry line at Kitson.

Nicole Richie was on hand to pose with Princess Jasmine and show off her seriously cool vintage shades.

InStyle was also impressed, naming Ms. Richie its "Look of the Day." [Source: InStyle]

(Lindsay Lohan, You Can) NEVER HIDE

uch like the slogan of her latest and greatest favorite shades, Lindsay Lohan can, in fact, never hide. She was photographed earlier this week at her rehab facility, Promises.

Who knew Ray-Ban's advertisements were such astute commentary on our paparazzi state?

The good news for Wayfarer lovers is that these Ray-Bans have hit the Italian wholesale sites.
Cost: $105
Colors: Red, Black, Orange, White, Havana Brown, Dark Havana
Retailer: Otticanet

I, for one, think Wayfarers have reached their saturation point, but our pretty young things seem to feel differently. Ashlee and Nicole will no doubt have keep this style on top all summer long.

Harper's Bazaar -- November 2006

finally had the opportunity to catch up on my fashion magazines this weekend, specifically Harper's Bazaar.

In their "What's New: Hottest, Newest, Latest" column they detailed a recent development in designer sunglasses.
"The latest trend in eyewear comes from an unlikely source -- buckles. Fendi's B, Roger Vivier's signature Pilgrim, and Gucci's classic closure have appeared as details on glam oversize sunglasses. Who knew looking chic would be such a cinch?"

Fendi's B Fendi Sunglasses:

Cost: $275
Colors: Black, Dark Brown
Retailer: Saks Fifth Ave.

Gucci's 2591
Cost: $201-206
Colors: Black, Tortoise, Red, Violet, Green, Blue
Retailer: Otticanet.com

The Roger Vivier sunglasses, far less common than the other two pairs, really caught my eye. Katie Holmes was photographed wearing them last month at David Orgell, a jewelry store on Rodeo Drive.

Roger Vivier
Cost: $445
Colors: Red, White, Black, Tortoise (as seen on Ms. Holmes)
Retailer: Saks Fifth Avenue (in stores, not available online)

Additionally, they were recently profiled in Wallpaper:
"It's a risk to refer to Diana Vreeland and Nicole Richie in the same sentence, but Roger Vivier's new sunglasses evoke just that type of icon-inspired elegance that we all wish we could exude everyday. The first frames in the collection boldly show off an oversized, Forties silhouette in your choice of red, black, white and tortoise shell, with Vivier's signature gold buckle adorning each temple in quiet homage. Mysterious, forward, effortless and desirable all at once, what more could a girl ask for?"

The Top$

ir Philip Green restated his plans to bring the splendid UK-based TopShop chain to the States after a New York court ruled in his favor.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled that Green's Arcadia Group owns all rights to the TopShop name. Thereafter, he announced his intention to recreate their Oxford Street, London flagship in the United States. The legal proceedings, while irksome, were not all negative:
"But what this litigation did was to reveal the vast amount of interest from all sectors in TopShop coming to America."
[Source: Vogue.co.uk]

The TopShop brand offers an array of shades that mimic designer style, though perhaps not their UVA/UVB protection. Americans can look forward to their purely ornamental, low-cost flash.

The Metal Rim Visor Sunglasses at right are reminiscent of pairs made by Vogue Sunglasses:
Cost: £20
Color: Red frames with Grey lenses
Retailer: TopShop.co.uk

At left, these Square-Armed Sunglasses have open temples and a Nicole Ritchie-ish feel.
Cost: £15
Color: Green metal arms with Grey lenses
Retailer: TopShop.co.uk

While these shades will not be putting the Luxottica Group out of business any time soon, they are great in the same affordable, fashion-forward way that the rest of TopShop's merchandise is.
