Because "Shy Ronnie" is Still in My Head...

With the advent of a new decade upon us, New York has compiled "The Short Lived Trends of the Decade", which features Rihanna in some super-sized wayfarers.

Even though this photo is from 2008, I'm positive Rihanna is wearing the Grey Ant Status Sunglasses, which are available for $230 on New High (M)art. [Blogger disclosure: I have no relationship with NHM, they simply had the best price when I searched Google.] Here on the flash, we've showcased the Status sunglasses on Lindsay Lohan.

Linda Farrow Vintage on Lady Gaga

January's Elle cover girl, Lady Gaga, is photographed wearing Linda Farrow Vintage shield sunglasses.

The exact style is not available on the Linda Farrow Vintage website, but Prada's Large Shield Sunglasses have a similar style.

The shoot was styled by Elle's Joe Zee, who tweeted that styling Gaga was:

The ultimate in majorness! You can only imagine!

Taylor Swift does New York Times T Style

Taylor Swift was featured in this week's T Style Magazine in an Alice In Wonderland-meets-Peggy Guggenheim photoshoot. "Little Miss Sunshine" Swift is shown wearing embellished cat-eye sunglasses from Mercura NYC.

My cat-eye vote for this holiday season definitely goes to Ray-Ban Oversized "Cat Eye" Plastic Sunglasses. Make them your own for $129 at Bloomingdales.

Chanel Illustrated

The continued attention on the Chanel 5018s is pretty wild, especially when you consider they first debuted in the Spring 2007 RTW show. They made the New York Times Style Section yesterday in a piece on fashion illustrators, "What a Lens Can't Capture." Danny Roberts' "Chanel Girls" features a small army of 5018-wearers.

Danny Roberts' other illustrations are worth checking out (via his Flickr and his blog, Igor and Andre). You can even order yourself a "Chanel Girls" t-shirt!

Ksubi Book Club: Plagiarism?

Uhhhhh... Ksubi? Your 09/10 eyewear collection may be called "Book Club," but it looks like your Bellatrix sunglasses are straight plagiarized from Chanel 5018s.

That said, the Bellatrix, shown above, will only set you back $289. Good luck finding the real deal 5018s (as seen below on an Olsen) on eBay.

Those really looking for a deal, however, should just go with the $10 version from girlprops.com.

The New Girls in Town

This summer's Twitter tip was confirmed earlier this week, when Tory Burch's eyewear collection launched. Fans of TB won't be disappointed in the line, which ranges from oversized round glasses to aviators and wayfarers. The collection is said to have been inspired by photographs of her parents vacations abroad in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I'd opt for the Wayfarer Sunglasses with Metal Temple, which feature a slight cat eye and are available for $165. Those who are looking for more of the signature T logo, should opt for the Classic Cat Eye Sunglasses at $150.

Wear Your Post-Labor Day Whites

Why not? I suggest the white Carrera Safari Aviators for flouting the rules.

[Available at Barneys for $120.]

Happy fall!

Carrier Cool

If you're looking to carry your sunnies in style, check out Natalia Brilli's Sunglasses Pouch, which features X-ray vision-ish imprinted leather.

The best deal I could find on these is $207 on farfetch.com (as opposed to other sites' asking price of $299). Enjoy!

Pretty Young Thing

September's issue of Harper's Bazaar paid tribute to Michael Jackson with Agyness Deyn wearing his signature studded and sequined look. Though there's nothing groundbreaking about the timeless Ray-Ban Aviators, they are spot on here.

Pick up the classic pair on ray-ban.com for $129.

Obsessed

Shopbop's "Obsessions: Fall Edition" lists the 19 products most coveted by its merchandisers and editors. And what list would be complete without a little Lanvin?

Their Editor lists Lanvin Framed Aviators among their most obsession-worthy for fall, saying: "Metal accents give these an industrial edge. So cool!" Shopbop has them in black or tortoise for $350.

RZ does Roller Disco

Whether you love her or loathe her, Rachel Zoe's newly launched website/newsletter, The Zoe Report, is worth checking out. Of course, most of RZR's recommendations are completely unattainable, but that's part of its appeal. She redeems herself with the "Parallel Universe" feature: similar, but way cheaper, styles for us mere mortals.

Not surprisingly, Zoe won me over by her recent post - "Roller Disco" - on the beautiful Barton Perreira Starlet sunglasses. (She's in good company: The New York Times has referred to them as a "brand coveted by aficionados".)

"In fact, they’re a favorite in my shamefully towering pile of do not disturb signs.* Formerly a designer at Oliver Peoples, Perreira classically structured the Starlet sunglasses with an unexpected multi-colored aspect that will give life to a blah outfit. Rarely does fashion meet function, but Perreira emphasizes the main purpose of sunglasses with protected lenses that guard your eyes from scary UV rays and prevent wrinkles. xoRZ

do not disturb sign* = sunnies, preferably oversized, used for masking tired eyes, hiding make-up from the night before and politely avoiding conversation."
I was able to find the Starlets online at blackoptical.com for $515.

Today in Twitter

Catching up on my Twitter today, I was stoked to come across a preview of Tory Burch's eyewear collection (scheduled to debut in November), which came straight from the source:

At our eyewear shoot in the meatpacking district. Our model Hana looks amazing! TB

Who says Twitter's a waste of time? Now, we'll have to keep an eye out for the campaign and update accordingly.

Lara Stone: Suddenly a Super

You've really got to hand it to Lara Stone, who is the cover model for and profiled in ("Fashion's It Girl") this month's W. Here in New York, she has been praised as "the anti-model" by Cathy Horyn, but she is perhaps best known for being the only model featured in the "all-Lara" February 2009 edition of French Vogue. In fact, editress Carine Roitfeld has described her as a muse, saying: “Sometimes a girl just touches you.”

That said, let's take a look back at some of Lara's flashier moments. Below, her campaign in 2007 as the face of Givenchy, where she made her major modeling debut.

On the left, Lara wore shades on the runway of Roberto Cavalli's Fall 2007 show. Below right, a moment backstage at Versace's Fall 2007 show.

Meisel's Muse

This Lanvin campaign caught my eye everytime I came across it in print. It features Norwegian model Iselin Steiro, photographed by Steven Meisel.

Matthew Williamson/Linda Farrow Sunglasses Rule. That is all.

So maybe some time has elapsed since my last posting. Sue me. But today I happened upon a super sweet deal on Matthew Williamson by Linda Farrow sunglasses on my favorite guilty pleasure, Gilt.com*. I'm so psyched about them, I really had to share.

Check out my soon to be delivered Oval Translucent Sunglasses in Aqua, which I picked up for $98 on Gilt (despite their original retail price of $300). I haven't come across such a fun and unique, yet completely wearable pair of designer sunglasses on sale for under $100 in what seems like forever ever.

* If you're not already a member of the wondrous daily sample sale that is Gilt, then: (1) I'm sorry; (2) You really should be, so comment and we'll get you set up; and (3) You'll thank me later.
