Before Its in Vogue, Its on Kate

If Kate Moss' fashion projections hold any weight for you, expect more Ray-Ban Wayfarers in our sartorial future.

The most superlative of all supermodels gave an extremely rare interview in this month's Vogue and gave her sunnies pronouncement:
"Sunglasses-wise, she is long finished with giant lenses, saying, "I'm doing a Ray-Ban at the moment. Just a normal Ray-Ban." Her unbrushed hair, a cool champagne shade of blonde, is choppy, with an eyelash-grazing fringe because "I'm into that Nico look.""

Looks like your Wayfarers will be getting more mileage, flashies!

Breaking!

Trusty New York magazine has the insider scoop on Proena Schouler's Fall 2008 sunglasses , including some sweet cat-eyes and the oh-so-trendy John Lennon-esque round frames.
"These sunglasses are so fresh, they don’t even have a price tag yet. This is the first glimpse of the shades; they’re not being presented to insiders until August market week. Though it's as yet unknown which stores will be stocking these little lovelies, we can tell you that they’ll be hitting the streets around October/November. So mark your calendars now."

The Artist Formerly Known as Posh Does Allure

In a profile in this month's Allure, Mrs. David Beckham got nostalgic with a hodgepodge of new and old pictures documenting her life in the public eye. Included was one of her controversial Marc Jacobs advertisements, which I happened to think were great.

I can't be certain, as the sides of the sunglasses aren't visible, but I believe she is wearing Marc Jacobs' MJ 212/S, which are available for £168 on London-Eyewear.com.

Overexposure: Chanel 5018

These Chanel 5018 sunglasses are out of control, feeding the tabloid fodder and someone ought to send them to rehab! Somehow I doubt that the cover of Star was what Karl intended for these beauties.

How 90s.

Here come the fall ad campaigns! Sunnies were featured in the Versace Jeans Couture ad on the lovely Maryna Linchuk. Lovely lovely, but is it maybe a little boring?

Times: "Love Your Sunglasses (Should I Know You?)"

Its fair to say that the New York Times profile on the prevalence of sunglasses made my day. Possibly my week.

They showcased a few terrific pairs of sunglasses, including some FlashyShades favorites: the Christian Dior CD DIOR 60 S1 and Jimmy Choo JJ.

My favorite pair highlighted is the Balenciaga 0015s. They retail for $360, but save yourself one hundred and twenty bucks by ordering them on otticanet.com for $240.

"Prices for designer sunglasses have jumped to $350 or more in recent months, from an average of $250, retailers say, and the price spike has not turned off shoppers. “The youth of America has discovered sunglasses to be the aspirational and prestige item of the moment,” said Marshal Cohen, a senior analyst with the NPD Group, a market research firm. He predicts, “Sunglasses will replace the handbag as the image item” among teenage girls and young women...

Designers are playing into shoppers’ desire to be recognized, at least by those in the know, by downplaying big logos and incorporating more subtle signals of provenance. Bottega Veneta offers frames with woven leather insets that are recognizable to connoisseurs of the house’s hand-woven leather goods. Prada butterfly frames echo the motifs of the brand’s recent runway collections. Chrome Hearts frames are embellished with sterling bolo designs and leather trim reflective of the company’s rough-rider image."

More from the Mail

This weekend's Daily Mail, "Primary colours" advises readers to "mix up monochrome with bold blocks of color in earrings, shoes, bangles and belts." And they've included a pretty flash pair of Sonia Rykiel sunnies.

Black 'Papillion' sunglasses, £227, Sonia Rykiel, 020 7493 5255

I really love these sunglasses and the entire Spring/Summer 2008 collection, actually.

My only question is: will I look as cute as Lily Donaldson in them?
