Super Duper DvF

uperlatives were always the best part of yearbooks, no?

Elle
gave out a few of their own for the New York Spring/Summer 2008 shows.

They named the collaboration between Diane Von Furstenberg and Cutler and Gross "some of the season’s chicest sunglasses."

Below, Caroline Trentini, Chanel Iman, Megan McNierney and Han Jin are indeed wearing the sunnies most likely to succeed.

New to the Club

had totally forgotten about their eyewear launch when I stopped into Club Monaco for their obsession-worthy cashmere tights and an I'm-sorry-I-was-drunk-and-behaved-badly present for my boyfriend. Their new sunnies collection was just a bonus.

Frankly, I wasn't blown away, but I wasn't really expecting to be. Like their clothing, the shades are all pretty obviously designer derivatives.

The staff was excited about their arrival though, with one of the salesmen trying the aviators on and declaring himself similar to Johnny Depp in "Blow". He wasn't.

Tis the Season for Luster

unday Styles in this week's New York Times profiled the season's luster.

"As the weather becomes duller, retailers are turning up the sparkle and shine. Thinking bigger than mere sequins or beads, designers are putting chunky stones and jewel-encrusted embellishments on bodices and waistbands, handbags, shoe tops, boot heels and even sunglasses."

"SUNGLASSES by Judith Leiber with Austrian crystal-studded temples, in topaz or ivory; $700 at Morgenthal Frederics stores, (888) 608-8700."

These sunglasses are also available at Bergdorf Goodman, also for $700.

For luxe without dropping the better part of a grand, I like Lanvin Way Shiner Sunglasses with Crystals featuring Swarovski crystals, of course.

Check them out at Saks.

ittle miss "Dare to Love Me" Lindsay Lohan is a regular L.A. Renaissance Woman these days, with nary a post-Cirque club visit in sight.

She's been sporting the Tom Ford Margaux sunglasses, which you may remember first seeing on Kate Beckinsale.

Natasha Poly on Holiday

he Gucci Cruise 2008 Collection is now available in stores and online. Surely, you've seen the ad campaign starring the gape-jawed stunner, Natasha Poly.

It seems Frida Giannini has a bit of a thing for Ms. Poly, who not only stars in the campaign, but also opened and closed the runway show.)

There is already a waiting list for the horsebit pair below on Natasha Poly ("large oval frame sunglasses with horsebit buckle detail and gucci script logo on temple"), which retail for $295.

Elle is for Lovers

he most fashionable sunglasses -- including the Chanel Couture shades, at right -- for the Fall/Winter season are detailed in a groovy Elle slideshow. Flashy Likey!

Other highlights include the much sought after futuristic Balenciaga shades, the highly publicized Roberto Cavalli Eva model and the soon-to-be-launched Banana Republic line.

Enjoy it, loves. See slideshow here.

PRETTY SHADY
Would Lolita really have conjured up that pint-size seductress image quite as well without her signature heart-shaped frames? Could Nicole Richie and Mary-Kate Olsen have catapulted themselves to tabloid style icon fame without their omnipresent saucer-sized shades? As certain front row types will tell you, the perfect pair of sunglasses serves as part accessory, part armor. This season, a slew of new brands are emerging on the market to bring an ideal air of mystery to the sophisticated woman. Chanel introduces their “haute couture jewelry” collection for fall, adorned with feathers, sequins, and embroideries. At the more affordable end of the spectrum, both Banana Republic and Club Monaco are introducing sunglasses next week, and we hear Club Monaco is already racking up pre-orders. And come spring, Balenciaga and Dries Van Noten will introduce their own brands of shades for the first time—the future is certainly looking bright.
