New York's "Look Book"

'm fairly certain that being featured in New York Magazine's "Look Book" is a goal for much of the city's population. I have a fairly concise mental outline of how I would describe my look. But that's neither here nor there.

Once again, I was not selected, but lip-synching, self-described "muse" Andre J was. While the afghan is certainly notable, I am more interested in the vintage Lanvin shades.

It turns out that vintage Lanvin shades are available at one of my favorite sites, PatriciaField.com. They also feature vintage styles by Burberry, Valentino and Versace. ALL FOR $60. LOVE.

Color: Rose
Cost: $60
Retailer: PatriciaField.com

Astonishingly priced vintage finds aside, my favorite part about P.F.'s site is her return policy:
Sunglasses Return Policy:

We understand the need to try on glasses, therefore all sunglasses are returnable within two weeks of purchase for a full credit card refund, minus the cost of shipping.
How perfectly reasonable! Guess who's getting herself some new flash?

I Wear My Sunglasses At Night V. SexyBack

certainly would not have guessed that "Sexy"'s renaissance would involve the return of Corey Hart, but with all the wayfarers this video is perfect for the current fashion moment. Also, I have a weakness for mashups. Enjoy.

New York on New York

he annual "Best of New York" issue of New York Magazine hit newsstands this week. Love New York Magazine!

A highlight:
Best Eyewear: Robert Marc

386 Bleecker St.; 212-242-6668; plus seven other locations

He’s not as cheap as you might find at a discounter or mass chain, but Robert Marc’s frames are handmade (meaning the eyepieces won’t wobble and the screws won’t break two months in). He uses excellent materials (Italian acetate, Japanese titanium), and prices start at $295. He’s best known for his trendy acetates, which come in an exhaustive variety of custom colors and shapes, but he also makes straightforward titanium and rimless styles and stocks cult brands that you won’t find elsewhere, like Lunor, a pricey, minimalist German line made from precious metals, and Retrospecs, a line of refurbished antique frames boasting that holy grail of modern eyewear: original forties and fifties aviators.

Cool Like MK

n Sunday of this week, Cool Like Chloe speculated that Ashlee Simpson was emulating Mary-Kate Olsen's unique style, but not quite hitting the mark.

"I'd take [MK's] Rayban's with seventies stripes over [Ashlee Simpson's] punk-pop stripes any day."
Who wouldn't? But it seems Ms. Simpson is catching on and was seen this week donning MK's signature Ray-Ban Wayfarers while shopping in L.A. What's next? The Balenciaga boots? Although, I guess this is better than when she was just copying her sister's look.

A Little Linkage

veryone knows that link posts are the lazyblogger's post of choice. That said, without further ado:

SuperiorPics: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are hot. FYI.

Haha: Discreet ogling advisory as Polaroid sunglasses ad campaign.

DigitalSpy: Madonna as fashion-ignorant sunglasses advocate.

TastefulCelebs: Predicts Ashlee Simpson's sunglasses future.

GossipWord: Targets the Wayfarer trend in "Kirsten Dunst, The 80s Called. They Want Their Sunglasses Back."

TheDarkHat: Does not appreciate Lindsay Lohan's sunglasses, tights.

CNN: "Barbie Bandit"'s Mom speaks out in daughter's defense. After reviewing the sunglass-less mugshots, "Barbie" may have been an overstatement.

YSL Muse Ironically Inspires Sunglasses

s you well know, I am pretty singularly focused in my fashion. My knowledge of "IT bags" is pretty limited to what I see on other blogs, but even I am aware (and in awe) of Yves Saint Laurent's Muse bag.

After all, its graced the arms of Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss (see below), Sienna Miller, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Madonna, Jessica Alba, Naomi Watts, Paris Hilton, Demi Moore, et al. It may, in fact, be easier to catalog which celebrities don't have them.

For more pictures of It Girls with their Muse bags, see I Am Fashion.

But Yves caught my eye when I noticed that he is now issuing sunglasses inspired by the Muse phenomenon, which echo the bags' gold hinges.

The sunglasses are not yet available online, but I will keep my eyes peeled.

Take That, Anna

aris Vogue's Carine Roitfeld was the picture of relaxed chic in her front row seat at the Yves Saint Laurent show last week. You just know she gets under Ms. Wintour's iron-clad skin!

While at YSL, Ms. Roitfeld and the rest of the A-listers took in these funky shades.

Eeek. Is the world ready for noseless shades?

Upgrade B

n case you're into this kind of thing: Beyonce's music video for her new single, "Upgrade U" premiered yesterday. While B waxes poetic about all things costly, her face is adorned with some Cazal vintage frames. That's sooo 2006 Gwen Stefani, B; you might as well bouffant your 'do, slather on the red lips and slip into your leopard print jacket while tossing Kingston to your roadie.

I kid, I kid. Lord knows I love the Cazal. (And Gwen Stefani for that matter.)

These aren't the precise model Beyonce is wearing, but you can't argue with these Cazal Vintage 946 Sunglasses.

Cost: $255
Colors: Rose, Grey
Retailer: CazalSunglasses.com

Pretty Penny

ree People is joining the ever-expanding ranks of sunglasses retailers. I was pretty excited about this development, as you can never go wrong with a funky and inexpensive pair of shades. For under $25, there is no need to stress about losing, breaking or going out of style.

Free People's Plastic Penny Sunglasses:
"Large vintage-inspired hexagonal lens sunglasses with translucent plastic frames and gold criss-cross details at hinges."
Cost: $24
Colors: Olive, Lilac
Retailer: FreePeople.com

Like Justin Timberlake, I'm lovin' it.

PS - Free People also has a groovy behind-the-scenes blog.
